This is an open call for photographers to submit up to four images that take 'hedges' as their theme.

Why do hedges hold such a fascination with landscape, urban and architectural photographers?
They might highlight boundaries, reveal disputes and divisions, provide visual privacy, conceal the world outside and hide the mysteries within.

Hedges and shrubs might be planted as a windbreak, a biodiverse habitat or as an ornamental garden feature. Their absence in the countryside can remind us of the industrialisation of agriculture. In towns and cities, they can represent the tastes and aspirations of suburbia. Ancient hedgerows can transport us back to a time pre-Enclosure Acts.

From the titillation of suburban pampas grass to the triumph over nature  of rectilinear privet hedges, from plastic plants to dead privets, we want to see photographs that tell a story about modern life, society and culture, and our relationship with nature. We are looking for urban, suburban and rural images.

Works selected by curator/gallerist Gareth Gardner will be exhibited as fine art prints in our Deptford gallery, as well as online.

All exhibition prints will be offered for sale during and after the exhibition, with a percentage of the sale price paid to the photographer. Your images will also be featured on our website and social media/PR channels.

Participation is invited from around the world, from both established and emerging photographers. You don’t need to consider yourself as a professional photographer to take part!

Before submitting your work, please make sure that you read carefully the terms & conditions of entry. You will be asked to confirm your agreement prior to submitting your image(s).

Please note that the entry submissions is operated via Google Forms. Because submission requires image uploads, you may be required to have a Google account to enter.
